Ladies elasticated boots are quite unusual to find. I thought perhaps someone might like these unusual and wonderfully shaped ladies boots to conserve.
Joseph Sparkes Hall invented elastic sided boots in 1837. His early method of using cotton covered brass springs proved a very unsatisfactory idea, and he perfected the idea using elastic webbing. By 1846 Sparkes Hall boot was worn by men and women and very popular.
Ladies elasticated ivory ribbed silk boots slightly rounded toe, central seam, back seam, elasticated sides, flat leather soles.
Toe to heel 9 3/4 in; 25 cm
Widest width 2 1/2 in; 6.5 cm
Slightly splattered with light brown markings. The front with splits across the toe joint area. The elastic has perished.
