Quilted Petticoat
1750-75

Because their are thistles quilted on this petticoat I would imagine it was Scottish and perhaps an indicator of sympathy to the Jacobite cause. It is amateur quilting rather than professional  which makes it more appealing. Although the petticoat is marked it could be useful for copying or if displayed on a mannequin with a dress, the marks would hardly show. The first photo showing the whole skirt is the true colour. The close ups look discoloured, but the skirt is of an even shade.

Description

of pale blue fine silk, quilted with scallop shells above a huge pattern of thistles and other flowers, lined with cream coloured worsted, slits to the sides (for pocket access), ties to the waist., lined in callamanca glazed wool.

Length 34 in; 86 cm

Hem width 9ft; 2.75 m

Condition

We have replaced the waistband which was non existant. There are quite a few marks on the petticoat. Ask for detailed photos.
