A sweet neo-classical designed dress for a small child. The plain waistband would have been covered by a silk ribbon.

Description

of white cotton with a shallow bodice with three vertical rows of interlocking circles, worked in French knots, divided by fine verical pleating, a plain waistband, the back bodice fanning out over the large neckline, secured with two embroidered buttons, a drawstring linen tie and the neck, all gathered to a a skirt with hem with large interlocking double cirlces with small embroidered leaves, the small puff type sleeves, tightly gathered at the top, overlapping and secured by a small embroidered button, the borders worked with the double interlocking circles.

23 in; 60 cm long

Condition

Very good apart from the covered buttons being very slightly worn. There is also a cleverly concealed old darn to the right hand front sleeve 2 1/2in; 15 cm. Also a small old darn near the cuff. You should be able to see from the photo.  There is the minutest of pale lemon marks close by, the size of the end of a pencil. A few damp marks to the hem.  The dress is clean and fresh.
