A very plain simple but lovely dress with a very long train in remarkable condition for its age. The bodice is quite deep for this period and my thoughts are that the wearer wanted a more demure demeanour. So probably a wedding dress. The pleating on the sleeves is also unusual.
of rich ivory silk satin, the fall front bodice, gathered at the neckline with original silk ties, the back with inset sleeves, the very long sleeves full at the shoulders with deep pleats and concave shaped from elbow to wrist, the back skirt with deep pleating where it attaches to the bodice, the skirt made from three widths of 18 in or 46 cm wide (selvedge to selvedge)silk with gores to the skirt sides, curved train, the bodice 8 in or 20 cm deep; front shoulder to hem 56 in or 142 cm; back shoulder to end of train 89 in or 226 cm
The skirt front has some minor markings. The underarm is not stained but has some rippling effect where silk has been strained. Once on a mannequin the sleeve will hide this. The back has a couple of minor holes near the hem and a few minor very small marks. To the back of one sleeve, cuff area is minor very small mark.
Ask for photos of the marks.
