A beautiful sewing roll. I feel the embroidery was purpose made by an amateur woman, although the quality of the work is very good. A marvellous addition to any collection. I am not sure whether the red needlecase at the bottom of the roll is original. It was made from Stroud red facecloth. It could easily be removed.
The outer side of ivory ribbed silk embroidered with clear bright coloured floss silks with trailing flower and leaf meanders, in shades of pink, blue, yellow and green with small areas of gold wrapped silk couching, the pocketed side similar, all edged in coral silk, lined in blue silk, the lower part with a red wool facecloth needlecase, the edges sewn with silk, the top with coral silk tie.
11 1/2 x 3 in; 30 x 7 cm.
In very good condition. You should be able to see small areas of wear to the pink silk braid edging in a couple of places to the front of the husif. The pocketed side has a few small areas of wear. Please ask for more photos if you cannot see.
