It is remarkable that any of these very delicate shawls survive in such good condition. A really lovely example. What is especially nice is the small woven damask design on the border. I would suggest that this is almost certainly a Scottish shawl.
Square, hand block printed with a repeat pine design with scrolling tips, 5 in/13 cm high, on a ground covered with smaller pines in rows of alternating direction, the border with small upright pines within mehrabs or arches, all on a white silk leno gauze weave ground, the border with additional small damask design, silk fringe, 6ft/ 1.8 m square.
Very very good.
