Two Ciselé Velvet Panels
17th c

Stunning design and super quality.  These were probably pilaster hangings. I can sell these seperately. They would look good as small chair coverings. The ground appears to be gold and would have glinted in the low light.


Cataloguing

Two panels each with a huge elaborate intricate guilloche designed vase from which huge strapwork type stems decorated with small cresents and leaves emerge, narrow side borders fo repeated diagonal leaves, all in crimson ciselé velvet on a yellow tabby silk weave ground, backed with handstitched linen.

Condition

A - The bottom 2 cm deep has some old darns and wear, which could be cut off. 14 cm down from the top there is an old very small and hardly noticeable darn. 1cm x 50 mm. 



B - has the lower left hand corner repaired with an added piece1 1/2 x 1 in; 3 x 2.5 cm. The bottom edge has a little wear.
