May Morris Tablecloth
Late 19th c
I haven't seen this marvellously flamboyant design before. You will see the edges are badly damaged. I think this would look wonderful, if backed and a suitable fringe applied to the edges. It could then be used in a historic house or your own!
Cataloguing
The rich gold sateen ground embroidered with large pink and mauve tulips, with touches of coral coiled within acanthus leaf stems, in shades of pale blue and cream, greens and browns.
4 ft; 1.2 m square
Condition
Where the piece has been folded in the centre there is some damage. Also to the edges. Clearly braid or fringing was attached which has now been removed.
