Provençal Baby Quilt
19th c
A delightful hand stitched baby boutis with superb quilting. Boutis is a Provençal word meaning stuffing. These infant quilts were worked by Provençal women living in fishing villages who had their own small cottage industry.
Cataloguing
A deep border with stylised flowers and leaves, the inner section with leaf design to the corners, the central panel in a diamond shape with hand drawn flowers and leaves in madder and indigo.
20 1/2 x 18 in; 52 x 46 cm
Condition
Both sides are very very slightly grubby which I feel sure a good wash would remove.
