Shoes and Case
1830s

Lovely to find the retailer's label inside these flat straight shoes or slippers and to have the linen shoe bag was an extra bonus.   Regent Street was fully developed by 1825 and became London's most fashionable shopping destination during the 1830s. Shops supplying the wealthier class congregated there, offering high-quality, high-priced goods. The ribbons crossed the front of the foot and tied round the ankle. The shoes were made as straights, no left or right, but labelled with Droit (left) and Gauche (right) so that the shoe could be put on the correct foot each time.
