A rare Shoe
c 1780

An Italian heel with a wedge like extension under the instep. The exagerated indented heel of this shoe makes it very rare. You will notice there are no latchets, only a bow on this slip-on shoe.


Cataloguing

The brocade covering woven with small flowers within diapers on a striped ground in green, blue pink and brown, rounded slightly pointed toe, a silk bow to the front and same edging, an extended white wedgeand heel to support the arch, natural leather sole.

Back of heel to toe approximately 9 in; 23 cm


Condition

Altered at some point, tabs removed and the silk at the sides split.You should be able to see from the photos that the front section is in good condition. For once the toe has not worn. The back quarters are worn and the back broken down. The cream edging is grubby. Altered at some point, tabs removed and the silk at the sides split.
