Caraco patchwork print
c 1820/1750s/1790s

This caraco was made around 1820 using three fabrics, probably all Dutch.  The roller print patchwork effect dates from c 1820 whilst the hand block printed lining is probably late 18th century. The marvellous blue and white hand block print with pencilled blue fillings used for the sleeve linings dates to pre-1750s.


Cataloguing

A roller printed cotton patchwork effect with three different small designed hexagons in pink, brown and beige, the hand blocked lining of a brown diamond printed cotton, the inside sleeves in a hand block print with large flowers and leaves, pencilled blue on linen.



The caraco with large neck with drawstring, very full skirts, with pleats to the back.



Shoulder to hem 38 in; 97 cm


Condition

Little damage to centre back neck and little more to the top of the back pleats which could easily be repaired, otherwise very clean and fresh.
