Indian Chintz Skirt Panel
18th century
Wonderful for a designer. Unusual being a skirt panel from an 18th century dress. One can see the inspiration of French silk brocade dress designs. This length would have been produced on the Coromandel Coast of India for the French market.
This length has a cotton archive label attached to it with the inked stamp of the company Besselievre Fils & Cie based in Maromme, France who were renowned for itheir block printed " Indienne " fabrics. Clearly this length was purchased by the company to copy with hand blocks.
