Tulip & Rose - A
1876
Tulip and Rose was designed by William Morris and registered on 20 January 1876.
This length is twinned with B and could be used for curtains, perhaps applied to indigo dyedlinen or as a pair of hangings. It is also strong enough for upholstery. We can prepare these for you to hang from a batten on the wall.
Cataloguing
The thick 3 ply woven wool and linen has terracotta roses and full blown tulips in shaded pale blue with some smaller ochre half tulips, all on an indigo background.
6ft 5 in x 30in; 195 cm x 72 cm Selvedge to selvedge.
Repeat 27 1/2 in; 70 cm. There are 2 repeats.
Condition
Basically very sound with little fading to the outer terracotta half flowers on the selvedges. I don't like clients to get any suprises so have detailed wear as below.
The top 6 cm has a little wear. 12 cm down from top there are two machine stitch lines.The panels are all selvedge to selvedge. The right hand side has slight wear. 10 - 15 cm down from the top there is a slight concave area of wear. 125 cm down an old darn and we have put a 7 cm patch to back to stabilise the wool. 12 cm from bottom is another very small patch to the back over a hole.
