Rare Harlequin
c 1820

Woven in one piece. The colours of the flowers changes depending on the compartment's ground colour. The harlequin border has wonderful colours. The pashmina is of very good quality and still retains a sheen.

or shoulder mantle, with ivory very fine herringbone weave shoulder mantle, the pashmina centre with 5 1/2in; 14 cm deep border containing a repeat slanting boteh motif, all in blue and green , red and with touches of saffron yellow, filled with leaves and surrounded by small botehs, the ends 17 1/2 in; 45 cm deep in six blocks of colour, crimson, ivory, black, pink, blue and yellow, each with a flower filled upright pine with gently curving tip, surrounded by smaller pines, the edges with narrow borders of repeat trailing flower motif, 10 ft; 3.5 m long x4ft 5 in;1.35m wide

Condition

The centre ground has quite a lot of moth holes, the largest near the centre is 1/2 in; 1.5 cm slit . Photos available of all the damage. End A has been nibbled in the very outer border 2 x 1/2 in. area. Another small area which could be easily conserved. Some of the fringing is missing. There are eight small holes to this end border, the worst about 3/4 in; 2 cm. The side borders seem fine. End B has one small hole.
