Chessboard designed by Edmund Arthur Hunter, woven by hand loom in grey and white wool and cotton with a repeat design of a medieval king and queen flanked by bishops in a gothic church, a panel above and below of jousting horseman and archers, all between further chequerboard panels with crosses and figures in shields, acorns and oak leaves, two edges with deep stripes, repeat 9 1/2 x 9 in or 25 x 23 cm; the whole piece 36 x 52 in wide or 90 x 132 cm wide (selvedge to selvedge)

Excellent. Unused.

There are many pieces of St Edmundsbury Weavers textiles in Letchworth Museum, Hertfordshire at the Whitworth Museum and Art Gallery, Manchester and at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. Several of Edmund's pieces were exhibited in the Victoria and Albert Museum's 1952 Exhibition of Victorian and Edwardian Decorative Arts
