Flowered Organza Skirt
c 1825
Flamboyant. Must have been very eyecatching to wear with a spencer. I would say that a young woman has embroidered this skirt for herself.
Cataloguing
the waist folded over and inserted with a gathered silk tie, fastening at the left hand side, pocket opening to right hand side, the hem with eleven sprays of coiled roses, the three dimensional white crepe large flowerheads with ochre wool centres, with raised work leaves and crepe rosebuds on stems in lines of green and brown, all above a shaded greenand brown leaf meander, 40 in or 1m long; skirt circumference 80 in or 2 m
Condition
Very good. There are about twelve very small light brown marks. Some of the wool covering the buds has come away. Little areas of the stem on the meander are missing. Photos available.
