Norwich Worsted Damask
18th c

This sample of fabric is a very rare worsted damask woven in Norwich. The damask fabric was known as spigeldamast or mirror damask and the shine (calendaring) was achieved by putting the completed fabric through heated cylinders. Calendering makes the fabric dirt resistant and therefore stronger. Huge patterns were made into skirts and waistcoats.

Cataloguing

Condition

Excellent. Marvellous sheen to the glaze.
