Strawberry Thief
Late 19th c

William Morris designed and registered Strawberry Thief on 11 May 1883. This was the first indigo discharge textile to include yellow and red. On 14 May, Morris wrote that he was anxiously superintending the first printing. Displayed at the Boston Foreign Fair, 1883.


Cataloguing

the indigo discharge ground hand block printed with a single thrush surrounded by strawberries and foliage and pink flowers , in shades of red, pink, yellow, brown,green, blue and natural, 14 x 9 in; 36 x 23 cm w. now hand stitched to calico and stretchedf over acid free board, ready for a frame.


Condition

Excellent. Wonderful colours.
