Gossamer & Trained
1800-1805

Trained gowns of this period are rarely found. You will notice the very fine muslin The muslin and the embroidery are probably Scottish.  You will have to use your imagination with this dress. The mannequin is never the right size and the photos don't look great! It's a beauty.


Cataloguing

the shallow bodice edged with a fine white cotton embroidered continuous leaf trail between spots, between narrow lines of drawn thread work, continuing over the shoulder and in a large loop to the top of the sleeve, original tapes to pull the bodice closer to the body to the very top of the edging and to the high waist, very long narrow sleeves, slightly flaring at the cuff, edged with hand made simple lace, the back with darts and tightly gathered, the skirt with a slit opening to the right hand side, the skirt with gores either side and with deep train.

Back shoulder to hem 5ft7in/1.7m


Condition

It is actually in amazing condition for its age. Very very very slight discolouration centre front skirt and little to sides of bust area. Also bottom of the sleeve. Perhaps a conservator could remove this.
