Norwich Stole
1790-1800
Beautiful and restrained. Curiously one long side border is sewn on back to front! Seems strange that this was a mistake. Perhaps the stole had that border turned over to create a long fold over stole!!
Cataloguing
the ivory twill weave silk central ground with end borders of wool and silk with stylised trees emerging from urns and leaves, the trees with flowers, sprays of blossoms all in scarlet, pale blue, sage green, apricot and black stems, with minute red three spot motif beside each tree, all between guard stripes of blue and red flowers with apricot fillings and sage green leaves, the sides with narrower edging similarly worked, short sik fringe,

Condition
the plain centre has some marks. One end there is a 2 cm medium dark mark. The other end has some pale pale pale ochre marks here and there. The centre has a large same colour mark 14 x 20 in. Ask for photos.
