Indigo/Madder Drawloom Stole
c 1815

Rare and lovely with the minute central moti, imitating a Kashmir shawl motif. Drawloom woven.  


Cataloguing

The wool and silk ivory twill weave central field with a repeating small 1/4 in/ 1 cm stylised Kashmir flower repeat, the end borders with gently bending fat pines, their centres filled with a flower laden tree emerging from a green stem with green leaves, surrounded by indigo stems and leaves with an abundance of red ciling flowers, in between small pines similar worked, the top row alternating with flowery trees, the narrow end borders with stylised flower and leaves, the sides borders of different design but again in madder ind indigo,

Condition

The original end fringing presumably became damaged and substituted with a not very suitable madder and black silk short fringe. This has been badly sewn so we are removing it and rolling the end edges.  If you wish to have the fringing sewn back let us know.
