Japanese kimono
first half 20th c

A very beautiful and wearable kimono. There are some marks but I think to drift round the house in this would rather wonderful.

This was bought in a temple flea market in Kyoto in 1996 by the vendor.

The V & A is to hold an exhibition on Kimono next year.

The ivory silk damask woven with a chrysanthum and fretwork design, the colourful peonies, iris, daisies, fruits, bamboo and leaves printed with gold hand painted outlines, lined in afine banana coloured silk, the inside leading edges and the deep border with shaded dye print.

There are some very feint marks on the right hand leading outer edge. Also pale banana markings to the back top right shoulder. These really hardly show, because they blend in with the colour and design. The lining is spotted. Ask for photos.
