Chinoisere Panel
1720s

Love the Chinese lady and the dog. Notice the bizarre type designs at the bottom of the piece. A delightful panel with scenes of Chinese life. There was a huge taste for chinoiserie at the start of the eighteenth century.  This could be used as a panel or cut and made into some lovely cushions. There are some Bizarre elements to this embroidery which clearly puts it into this period. Originally it would have been part of a valance from bed hangings. This would look mounted up and hung.

Condition

Clearly this has been reduced from a longer border. There is a little brown wool reworking to some of the background areas. I feel if it was made up as a cushion this would not notice and it would be enjoyed for the subject matter and lovely colours.
