Striped Waistcoat
c 1810

Subtle and smart. From the Baines Family, Bell Hall, Naburn , Yorkshire. I have lot's of family provenance for this waistcoat. There are also breeches and trousers from same household.

Cataloguing

Horizontal stripes of two shades of pale yellow, one with a linear stripe, the other with textured finish, between off white lines, scattered with small brown stars, of worsted wool with stand up collar and nine single breasted buttons, covered in textured wool, two slit welted pockets, back and lining of thick cotton, double ties.

Condition

One of the buttonholes is damaged but this could probably be repaired quite successfully by a good needlewoman.  There is slight staining to the front, which you should be able to see in the photos. If not ask for more. I believe the ties to be original. There is a fantastic piece of darning to the middle left hand armhole, 1 1/4 in; 3.5 cm horizontal darn.
