Tree of Life
Late 19th c

I love the warm terracotta shades of this hanging. A most attractive piece which would look wonderful as a hanging.

Cataloguing

Two trees intwined and emerging from grassy hillocks, their branches with a variety of flowers including a sunflower and pointed leaves, all in shades of rust, terracotta, cream and apricot, black, five shades of blue and four of green, all worked in crewel wools on a natural twill weave ground.

7ft 10 in x 4ft 6 in ; 2.35 x 1.37 m

Condition

Excellent apart from a few stains to the edges.  If you wanted to hang this piece, the edges could be covered with a narrow velvet strip, or it could be mounted on a stretcher similar to those used for picture frames, so the edges are stretched round the sides and would not be noticed.

The right hand side has a stain to the middle edge 1 3/4 x 1 3/4 in; 4 x 4 cm.

Top left - 2 x 1.2 in; 6.5 x 1 cm

Bottom left under the hill 3 x 1 1/2 in; 8 x 4 cm.
