Crewel Work Panel
c 1910

The pistachio colour ground is unusual and very pretty. This would look good hung on a wall.

Cataloguing

The pistachio green twill weave linen ground embroidered with bright coloured blooms including tulips, zinnia, peopnies, and roses, with the blossoms emerging from a central stem, all in 20-25 shades of pink, red, mauve, amethyist, apricot, rust, paleand sea green, mid blue, brown, in thick crewel wools.

 x 53 in;   x 1.35 m sq

Condition

This has been reduced at the top from a longer hanging. The pistachio background is slightly patchy and must be to do with the dye. I do not find it detracts from the overal impact of the piece. There is a rust mark top left and right. There are slight  markings to the top and I would turn this under by 5 in. There is also a mark between the two dahlias.  The top and bottom hem have been machined. Be good to unpick and hand sew. We can do this if you wish.
