This delightful decorative piece has an unknown embroideress. It is beautifully worked and would look great framed up.

Cataloguing

The dramatic bird with outstretched wings in front of a stylised tree, appliqué and embroidered in grey linen applique to a natural linen ground, the leaves in soft brown, yellow, orange appliqué leaves each embroidered in a variety of patterns, using wools in a large number of shades including yellow, grey, burnt orange, sea green, pink, slate blue, the border with blocks of plain linen and embroidered linen.

2ft x 18 1/2 in; 62 x 46cm wide

Condition

Unfortunately a pevious owner has glued the piece to a hardwood backing. A conservator could remove this, but perhaps just to put it in a frame and enjoy it would be the best thing.

The plain linen ground has a few very very light marks, which you may be able to see from the photos. If not ask for more photos.
