Goldwork Cap
18th century

Most unusual with good goldwork in three techniques, silver/gold rolled wire work embroidered over paper padding, and silver beaten flat and embroidered,  two different types of gold twisted wire and a gold wrapped round a silk core. For anyone interested in gold  and silver work techniques this hat would be of interest. The shape is very similar to the Trapunto quilted cap featured.

Cataloguing

The four section of mid green silk velvet ground, edged with gold tiwsted braid, each section with a spray of stylised flowers and leaves using the tecniques mentioned above.

8 in; 20 cm high .  24 in; 61 cm circumference.

Condition

Very good. The odd piece of gold work has come undone. Probably relined with natural coloured cotton.
