Linen Stair Carpet Protector
c 1900

A few years ago I sold a huge linen carpet protector which was woven in Scotland. I believe these were also made in Ireland. Unfortunately I do not know where this piece came from. These pieces covered your carpets when you were not living in the house, protecting the expensive carpet from sunlight and moth.

Cataloguing

A narrow width, the central panel woven with stylised flat leaves within a diamond trellis, flanked by a narrow flower meander border with zig zag guard stripes.

21 ft x 15 1/2 in; 7 x 39 cm

Condition

Very good. It is quie stiff so not sure if it was originally like this or whether it has been laundered and slightly starched. There is the smallest feintest pale blue mark a few metres from one end. There is also a rust mark 12 in from the end. This could be cut off if you wanted to use the piece.
