Patchwork Inspired Dress
1825-28

It is of course the print which makes this dress so interesting, with the influence of patchwork or pieced coverlets. 


Cataloguing

The roller printed cotton with four wavy lined circles filled with stylised sprays of flowers and geometric motifs.



The high rounded neck, the bodice with a central rouleau seam, high waisted with a narrow flat band joining the tightly gathered skirt, the back with ruoleau seams from centre back to under arms, centre back fastening with small mother of pearl buttons and hand sewn eyelet holes, coverd by a flap of fabric to conceal the buttons, white tape ties at the skirt waist, the huge puff sleeve tapering to rouleau edged cuff, the bodice and sleeve puffs lined with thick cotton.

Condition

Very very good, fresh and clean apart from  the top back buttonhole and the second from the bottom are a little damaged. The bottom of the back bodice has a little damage. Basically the buttonhole has ripped and torn, so there is 1 1/2 in; 3 cm missing. This could easily be stablised. Ask for photo.
