Man's Tudor Leather Shoe
Early 16th century

Henry VIII would have been on the throne when this rare shoe was worn. It would probably have had a low back.

Cataloguing

Now with a deep  squarish leather tongue with rounded toe, a double row of small curving decorative holes to either side of the front flap, the sole in two parts, a join at centre.

Toe to heel 9 1 /2 in; 24 cm

Widest across sole  3 1/2 in; 9 cm

Condition

The front section is all there. One side of the tongue is damaged. There is a small split to the right hand side. I think what we are looking at is an inner sole with the outer missing, if that makes sense, with holes to the permieter. The back is missing.
