Elizabethan Style Reticule
Second half 19th c

Ideal if you are needing a reticule which looks Elizabethan. The little purse is in fact Indian, with zardozi gilt embroidery. They were given to wedding guests as a memento.


Cataloguing

The mid brown cotton velvet ground couched with four different type of silver gilt, including coiled wire, spangles, bobbles and tinsel, both sides with the same design of a butterfly landing on some flowers, the curved outer shape with a scalloped and flower decoration, the flat top with silk drawstrings in tan and silver metal thread, lined with brown twill weave cotton in four compartments, each with drawstrings.
