I believe this would have been used for the front of a table.  It would look good with the top cotton strip folded under and hidden or removed, and the triangle mounted onto a stretcher, or framed, as to your preference.


Cataloguing

The orange silk crepe ground appliqué with two floating ladies in flowing robes, one holding a mirror, the other a musical instrument, each embroidered over paper to give the raised three dimensional effect, their features in long strands of twisted silk threads, with gold wrapped silk couching and brown and green silk robes in brown and green with gold flecked cording, goldwork leaves, a finely worked plaited narrow edging in gold and natural silks.



20 x 39 in; 98 x 50 cm wide - the orange surface + 4 in; 10 cm of linen to the top edge.


Condition

Very good. no stains or marks. A few of the facial silks are lifting and a very small area of the goldwork appliqué has lifted. Ask for photos if you cannot see.
