Infants Goffered Shirt
1720s

An amazing piece. Have you ever seen such care taken for a baby's shirt having goffered sleeves and impressed design to the cuffs. The decoration on the cuffs must have been achieved by a heat process. I am assuming a heated decorated clamp was used where the cloth was inserted and a pattern produced. Do tell me more if you know about this. Thank you. It is not suprising all the linen items from this collection have damp markings. This is what I call old white. It has not been washed with modern detergent.

From the attic of a house built in 1550. Provance available.

Overall light brown markings. The left hand sleeve, as you look at the shirt, has light brown markings as does the lower right hand side, but feel fairly confident a conservator could reduce these.
