Stamped Cap & Dress Insert
1720s

Amazing decoration on these two items, achieved by a heat process. I am assuming it must have been a heated decorated clamp where the cloth was inserted and a pattern produced. Do tell me more if you know about this. Thank you.

Cataloguing

The small linen cap with fine goffered back , the sides with some linear designs with heat processed design, the outer band with more intricate design with stars and scallops, edged with hand made narrow Valenciennes bobbin lace, the top section is open.



Length 5 1/2 in; 14 cm



The dress insert is small and triangular, applied with the heat process in similar design to the cap, the top edged with same narrow Valenciennes lace, the outer corners with small linen rosettes, complete with original pins!



Widest 6 in; 15 cm


Condition

Cap: Very very good. You will see there are some feint light brown markings to one side.



Forehead cloth: Very very good. Few very slight very light brown markings.
