A bird glancing backwards surrounded by large flowers and leaves in shades of deep pink, purple and blue grey, with touches of gold coloured dyes, on a cream cotton ground.

By Agatha Groot, the white linen ground worked with 29 darns in variety of designs, in soft apricot, rich cream silks, three sides with a drawn threadwork border.

Wearable Chinese Coat - 1950s

The rich blue satin embroidered to the lower fronts each with an exotic bird embroidered in shades of brown with a red beak sitting on a island, surrounded by a peonies tree with large blooms, a pair of small black birds above, the back similar, the wide sleeves with peony blooms to the reverse, a small flower spray to the shoulders, the brocade woven borders withinin fine pink, and green cotton strips, three chased brass ball buttons and black loops below a mandarin collar. pale lemon lining.

The embroidery is unusual in that the peonies and foliage are worked in fine couched cords in coral, pink, green with gold couching outlines, the birds in fine floss silks.

With small bunches of flowers alternating in pink/red and pinky rust,apricot, laying on a ivory striped ground with two different bands of stripes, a gold flower and leaf meander between the bunches.

Indian Chintz Skirt Panel - 18th century

A gently meandering thorny branch supporting clusters of large exotic flowerheads and smaller sprays of flowers, hand painted and coloured in madder, inidgo and magnesium, on a light taupe cotton ground, glazed.

The left hand side 43 in; 1.10cm

12 in; 30 cm repeat.

Indian Chintz Panel - 18th century

A variety of exotic flowers wound round a thick thorny branch, and smaller varieties of fine tendrils, in shades of madder and indigo on a nautral cotton ground.

The thick 3 ply woven wool and linen has terracotta roses and full blown tulips in shaded pale blue with some smaller ochre half tulips, all on an indigo background.

Repeat 27 1/2 in; 70 cm. There are 2 repeats.

The thick 3 ply woven wool and linen has terracotta roses and full blown tulips in shaded pale blue with some smaller ochre half tulips, all on an indigo background.

Alan Walton Curtains - 1938

Each length with a double vertical design of a segmented classical Doric columns beside two handled Grecian vases within leaf sprays, in subtle lime green and burgundy on a white linen ground, the tops gathered with rufflette tape.

Each 7ft 9 in x 4ft 4 in; 2.35m x 1.32 m selvedge to selvedge

There are four repeats in each curtain.

Bengal Colcha Fragment - Early 17th c

The border with flower and leafy sprays flanked by pairs of birds and lions, the very edge with needlelace, all in golden maize yellow tussah silks on a natural cotton ground.

Morris Cherwell - 1887

Reg Morris & Company, 449 Oxford St,W1. The rich green with a touch of blue ground is hand wood block printed with shaggy chrysanthums, thistles, campion and other flowers with huge acanthus leaves, all in soft orange with soft black outlines.

Michael O'Connell - Late 1950s

Signed Michael O'Connell, in the bottom right corner, with his intwined monogram MOC the circuit diagram in two dimensional motifs of blocks of colour paste resist painted in rich shades of deep pink, purple mid and dark blue, on sage,the fabric a heavy coarse textured linen.

Crewel Bedhangings - Second quarter 18th century

1/2 - A pair of dimity curtains of fine ribed cotton with three embroidered edges, the crewel worsted woolwork finely embroidered with three colourful flowerheads, a pink (carnation) yellow and red striped tulip, with pale blue silk stamens, a deep pink rose with palest yellow silk knotted centre, and a blue star shaped flower, shaded green leaves and tendrils, the borders 5 in; 13 cm wide, all lined with fine linen.

The dimity is in loom widths 17 in; 44 cm selvedge to selvedge. Each curtain is made of 4 loom widths.

7ft 2 in x 5ft 6 in; 2.20 x 1.68 m drop.

3/4 - Another pair, this time with embroidered borders to one side and the bottom, lined with fine linen. 7ft 1 in x 4ft 5 in; 2.15 x 1.35 m wide.

Each made up of 4 loom widths of dimity.

6 - 2 tie backs each with six flowers, similar to above, edged with lovely terracotta and pink/blue wool braid. 31 x 6 in; 79 x 15 cm.

7. Four short border lengths with pieces of dimity 18 x 16 in; 48 x 40 cm.

8. A panel with a several flowers and leaves including tulip, carnation, roses emerging from a shell motif, between a top and lower boder with similar meandering flowers, all in bright shades of yellow, blue, red, pink and green on a off white dimity ground. 21 x 19 in; 53 x 49 cm.

Morris & Co Embroidery - c 1900

A small bird with out stretched wings in front of a double circle, perched on a acanthus leaf, with blue tulips and further scrolling acanthus leaves, the bird in shades of cream, apricot and soft terracotta, the leaves in soft greens and yellows, the ground in soft rich clotted cream, the border framing the piece in soft terracotta and pink, an outer natural ivory border, all embroidered in floss silks on a linen ground.

Festival of Britain - 1951

The centre of the scarf with a map of the British Isles scattered with churches, trees, deer, mines, industrial buildingspigs and four leaf clovers, surrounded by the sea with a variety of ships and boats. The corners with 1951 and the Festival of Britain symbol below scenes of our industries including miners, ships, cars and steelworks, the second with the site on the South Bank with the Festival Hall and other buildings, flags and the Skylon, the third with the Globe theatre and a Shakespeare play in progress, the fourth with Medieval trades and craftsman. The straight sides with scenes from the four areas of Britain. Wales -Caernarvon Castle in Wales and a man fishing , England - a beefeater, the Tower of London, thatched cottages, Scotland -a piper and his dog, Ireland - violinst and a Irish dancer.

Soft orange, sea green, pale blue, mid brown, yellow on an ivory satin silk ground.

The dark brown ground (Ramoneur) with exotic foliage in mauve, ochre, bue, pink and green, edged with black and white woven braid, lined with black and white striped cotton.

Pillowsham - 1930

A central flowering plant with a variety of species, the four corners with similar but smaller sprays of flowers and foliage, all in worsted shades, the background similarly worked to the coverlet with indigo cotton interlocking ovals and elongated S scrolls, the border with a double embroidered inset, natural linen ground. 23 1/2 x 31 1/2 in; 60 x 80 cm
