Indian Chintz Cornucopia Panel - 1750-70

A cornucopia with diagonal leaves filled with a huge display of roses and exotic Eastern flowers, hand drawn and painted, resist and mordant dyed, in shades of madder, indigo and magnesium (aubergine) on a natural fine cotton, one panel with a wavy rope type border.

RARE Chinese Export - 1730-40s

The design with enormous exotic seed pods hanging from branches of foliage with flowers, the background of rich blue satin, with foliage in a matt weave.

The blue silk damask skirt with a wide flat knife pleating to the front 6 in; 16 cm wide, flanked by fine pleating 1 cm wide attached to a narrow pale blue woven linen waistband, the right hand side with a large brass hook and eye above a open side 12 in; 30 cm, edged in finest pale blue cord flanking a wider tape 1 1/4 in; 3 cm the hem with similar narrow cording.

The Chinese silk measures selvedge to selvedge 29 in; 74 cm. The selvedges are red and yellow twill weave. Every 5 1/ 2 in;14 cm the selvedge has a small French type knot in blue silk thead. I have not seen these before on selvedges. There are eight full widths in the skirt.

There is no pattern repeat.The design is large and is the full length of the skirt 39 in; 1 m.

There are two long linen tapes to the waistband. This would have been for hanging up the skirt on hooks at night.

Chinese Export Dress Lengths - 1770s

The rich ivory satin ground with trailing arcs of buds looping over sprays of flowers and fruits, in two shades of redcurrent pink twisted silks.

43 x 29 in; 1.09 x 74 cm wide selvedge to selvedge.

Repeat 27 1/2 in; 70 cm.

Morris & Co Embroidery - c 1900

A small bird with out stretched wings in front of a double circle, perched on a acanthus leaf, with blue tulips and further scrolling acanthus leaves, the bird in shades of cream, apricot and soft terracotta, the leaves in soft greens and yellows, the ground in soft rich clotted cream, the border framing the piece in soft terracotta and pink, an outer natural ivory border, all embroidered in floss silks on a linen ground.

Women's Linen Chemise - Late 18th century

Of T shape with full length inset panels from mid armpit to hem, another triangular inset panel below each sleeve, the neck opening with a very fine plaited linen trim, the neck area lined with a linen braid, a F embroidered in black cotton to one side of the opening, and indistinct initial to the other.

A variety of exotic flowers wound round a thick thorny branch, and smaller varieties of fine tendrils, in shades of madder and indigo on a nautral cotton ground.

Indian Trade Cloth - Early 18th c

The large kylin hand block printed in madder and indigo surrounded by flowers and leaves on a buff coloured cotton ground, the top with a stylised border of flowers within C scrolls, backed with a French print of poppies, wheat and flowers..

Caraco patchwork print - c 1820/1750s/1790s

A roller printed cotton patchwork effect with three different small designed hexagons in pink, brown and beige, the hand blocked lining of a brown diamond printed cotton, the inside sleeves in a hand block print with large flowers and leaves, pencilled blue on linen.

The caraco with large neck with drawstring, very full skirts, with pleats to the back.

Liberty Opera Cape - 1890s

A label Liberty & Company Ltd. London & Paris woven in yellow on a natural silk ground is sewn to the inside of the cream satin frilled collar, the collar gathered into the yoke, four hook and eye and loop fastenings and two long cream satin ties, the silk brocade woven with cream, edged beige elongated cloud like motifs on a pale blue ground, lined with a heavy cream supple satin, with two large loops (to put your arms through) and a large deep vertically pleated pocket.

A deep border with stylised flowers and leaves, the inner section with leaf design to the corners, the central panel in a diamond shape with hand drawn flowers and leaves in madder and indigo.

Gentleman's Dressing Robe - c 1825-30

With gently rolled collar, wide sleeves with deep cuffs with a sewn line for decoration, gently falling front, no fastenings, the back with central seam, curving seams from mid armhole to lowered waist, the full skirts with two wide pleats and three gores, two deep slit pockets to the side seams, lined in brillant yellow Indian silk which is stitched in diagonals and crosses (quilted) to the skirt wadding, probably Japanese silk, all hand stitched.

Hand block printed silk stripes of apricot alternating with fawn, both with minute deep red and fawn flowers attached by curving lines.

Gradelle, Regent Street - 1830s

A pair of black silk satin slippers with black silk bows and laces, wide rounded toes, white kid leather linings, a printed label Gradelle .... (initials) 456 Regent Street successor of RENAULT & DUMAS from Paris. London. a small one with Droit, 27/- (27 shillings now £2. 3s), as well as 37 witten in ink, the other shoe with Gauche,27/- and 37 written in ink, the leather soles stamped 37/27.

The natural glazed cotton shoe bag embroidered in red cotton to one end with the initials W.S. original linen tape ties.

Morris Tulip & Rose - 1876

The thick 3 ply woven wool and linen has terracotta roses and full blown tulips in shaded pale blue with some smaller ochre half tulips, all on an indigo background.

Silk Quilted Petticoat - Mid-18th century

The main field in a diamond trellis, the deep border with a large continuous leaf meander, all in fine blue soft silk satin, the front with a centre box pleat flanked by wide pleatingdirected to the sides and back, the side seams with pocket slits, the later white cotton waistband fastening with tapes at the back. the batting lining of slightly glazed worsted wool or tammy.

Natural linen woven with rows of small sprouting wool flowerheads on leafy stems, two shades of pink, indigo, tan and beige wools.

The terracotta ground hand block printed with a large repeat design with a centrally placed vase flanked by two lions with female faces sitting on elaborate stands, all in shades of rust, pink, blue, cream and brow

Two panels each with a huge elaborate intricate guilloche designed vase from which huge strapwork type stems decorated with small cresents and leaves emerge, narrow side borders fo repeated diagonal leaves, all in crimson ciselé velvet on a yellow tabby silk weave ground, backed with handstitched linen.

Italian Tabby Weave Length - 1600-50

The red and yellow silk tabby weave woven with two vases of flowers each within a strappy ogival flanked by a large crown, the length comprising four widths of fabric, the ends with a double display of three large (7 1/2 in; 19 cm) intricately laid red and yellow narrow cordings with exotic toggles and loopl fastenings, the ends similar with single triple cordings, the top edge and ends with red and yellow chequerboard braid.

All are of green/blue silk tabby ground with yellow, which looks gold, damask pattern of amoroni, shell motifs, sea dragon tails, grotesque animal heads, with side borders.
