Boy's Dress
c 1850

It is so rare to find a really lovely example of a boy's dress in very good condition.

Description

The fine wool plaid in black and white check overlay with scarlet and duck egg blue stripes, round neck, the bodice with a "waistcoat" overlaid with a "jacket", all edged with soutache linen braid in similar but paler blue, the full skirt with similar braid from waist to hem,  the back with hand sewn eyelet holes and brass hooks, lined in glazed cotton.

Condition

The wide blue bands have faded a little in places, but this does not detract from the overall apperance. The lining is grubby. Pinhole markings can be seen on the lining, where the dress had horizontal pintucks, which were let down when the child grew. One moth hole on the hem surrounded by a few smaller holes. If you wanted to repair there is sufficient fabric inside the dress, but I would not bother. It is after all around 175 years old and being of wool amazing there are not more holes!

Price: £550 | $680 | €640
