Not only do we know who embroidered this fine sampler but we know that it came from the Zaanstreek area of North Holland..

Description

worked by Geer Truida Kruyt  with the alphabet worked in twisted silks in mid green silks, above two rows of yellow silk fine darns with cross darns in shades of deep pink, beige, pink, green and blue silks, filled with different patterns including trellis, zig=zags and diagonal lines, her name at the bottom in brown silks, all on a linen ground, 19  x 15 1/2 in or 48 x 40 cm drop.

Condition

Very very good. One small mark above the girl's second name. Very fresh.

This darning sampler, and the Dutch were the first to create this style of sampler, came with the other Dutch samplers on the site. They were worked by the Kruyt family from Zaanstreek, the prosperous region in north Holland.
