Dutch Wool Skirt
19th c

From the fishing village of Volendam on the Markermeer Lake, northeast of Amsterdam. It’s known for its colorful wooden houses and the old fishing boats in its harbor. This would be ideal for a reenactor to wear.

Description

The thick wool skirt with stripes of scarlet, mid blue and green, yellow and white, very full, the front flat with pleating to sides and back, the side opening edged with red and white braid, the wool twill waistband with brass hooks and eyes, the hem edged with red and whie braid.

Waist 23 in; 59 cm

Length 37 in;   93 cm

Condition

Very good. The white stripes are a little dirty, so probably could do with dry cleaning.
