Foil Netted Purse
Late 18th c

Very unusual having sparkling foils wrapped round the mesh. The overall impression of the mesh is gold. The mesh ground is in fact gold foil spun round a silk core. Eighteenth century purses tended to be longer/larger than the early 19th century examples. Often there were no sliders because the purse was tucked into the belt.

Description

The wider end with lines of deep pink, gold and blue foils wrapped round the gold netted mesh, a long opening, the narrow end with similar foils, both ends with twisted metal tassels.

16 1/2 in; 42 cm

Condition

Very Good. With a magnifying glass you can see looking at the mesh ground, that some of the silk from under the gold foil has rubbed, but the overall apperance is very good.
