Glasgow School of Art Style
1916

A lovely embroidery, in the Glasgow School of Art style, by Grace Evelyn Foley . There is a label on the back. Perhaps Grace was a teacher who trained at the school's saturday classes for teachers. The frame is quite suitable.

Description

Two birds in shades of bronze, pink, soft orange, brown, black and green perched on an embroidered tree full of rosehips and sprays of flowers, all in red, coral and pale pink, with small acanthus style leaves, a further trunk winding its self around the tree, with larger fruits in soft shades of coral and brown and larger leaves in shades of green, greenblue with soft coral stamens, all flanked by a thistle plant and a coral flowered plant, the base with small upright flower sprays, all worked in floss silks on a pale green silk twill ground.

22 x 12 1/2 in; 56 x 32 cm

Now in a gilded frame with glass.

Condition

Very good. There is slight puckering to the silk ground, which is quite common with old silk embroideries. A little slight marking to the silk ground in places.
