This looks exactly like a Kashmir shawl which has been cut to make a waistcoat, but it is'nt. It's probably cut from a French shawl. What's unusual is that the wool is a worsted, so fairly rough. The edging braid is the shawl's border.

Description

The worsted woolwoven with a small repeat motif of brown stem and pink flower, the edgings in a small stylised flower repeat in deep pink, pale blue, brown, the very small buttons are finely embroidered in shaded greens, blue and ivory silks with a central star, the stand up collar and straight cut bottom, with two slit pockets, the natural linen back with two original ties.

Underarm 36 in/92 cm.

Length nape to hem 20 in/51 cm.

Condition

There are a few pinprick holes to the front and two larger, near the first and the fourth buttonhole. There is another lower left, as you look at the waistcoat. The inside collar has a bad area of holes 1 x 1/4 in/ 2.5 x.5 cm and more holes to the opposite side. The back lining has some stains. Ask for photos.
