Always amazes me that so often crinolines and bustles were made from scarlet fabric, when the impression we get of Victorian women is that they were prudish. Originally made as a crinoline hoop in 1868-1870 and then reshaped about 1870-1872.
The scarlet wool mix fabric with flat front opening, the inside bustle of grey and white striped cotton laced at the front, brass eyelet holes to the waistband and to the striped cotton, supported by three steels and with four hoops to the lower back, machine sewn.
Waist 23 in; 60 cm
Length 31 1/2 in; 80 cm
Basically in very good condition. Some of the machining is quite crude. The lacings are not original. One small hole near the waistband at top of back bustle section.
