Clearly influenced by contemporary art of the post war period these abstract designs were very popular on floors, fabrics. The wire forms imitated furniture of the period. The boomerang shape was the shape of dynamism for this period. This fabric is called bark fabric and was very popular in the 50s.
I have two lengths like this.
the cream cotton ground screen printed with a solid and sketchy shapes, in red, sage green, lemon and black, grey and touches of gold, Guaranteed Vat Printed. Preshrunk on the selvage.
8ft x 4ft wide; 2.4 x 1.22 m wide selvage to selvage
They do have some light stripes from being hung as curtains. There are also some pulls to the fabric. Ask for full report.
This fabric is on the cover of Fabulous Fabrics of the 50s. by Gideon Bosker, John Gramstad, Michele Mancini. Chronicle Books.1992. I believe it to be designed by Michelle Wetherbee. If anyone can give me more information I would appreciate it.
