I think this luxurious stunning heavy piece is probably French or Italian. It is a rare piece because It is the end of a length , showing the striped end. Expensive to weave with all the gold and silver wire, as well as the silver wrapped silk threads. Perhaps this piece was left over after a gentleman's waistcoat was made. During the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century there was a huge interest in the Orient which influenced textiles woven and printed in Europe with an Eastern look. It would look good framed.
With a repeat vertical design side by side with C scrolls, exotic fruit and flowers, a winged orb or fruit at centre bottom, all in coral, pink and mid green silks, silver wrapped silk thread and gold and silver wires.
20 x 21 in wide selvedge to selvedge ; 52 x 53 cm
There is no pattern repeat in the length.
A little tarnishing down the right hand side 2 cm wide.
Price: £550 | $700 | €620
