A simple understated gown in beautiful figured silk and very British.

Description

Of blue and cream brocade, the ice blue stripes woven with small flower sprays, the cream stripes with leaves or ribbon effect, the deep scooped neck with a simple original cord tie, five hand embroidered eyelet holes to each side of the bodice, edged with a narrow tiny box pleated trim with scalloped edges, elbow length sleeves, pleated trimming applied to the front skirts, the pleated back flowing from centre back into the skirt, the bodice lined in linen.

Shoulder to hem 52 in; 1.03 cm

Bust area 30 in; 76 cm

Hem circumference 7ft 7 in;  2.33.

The skirt made up of three full widths (pink selvedges) and two half widths.

 

 

 

Condition

The left hand sleeve, as you look at the robe has a horizontal split 1 1/2 in; 3.5 cm. Underarm is another split 3/4 in; 2 cm. The hem has a wavy watermark 16 in; 40 cm wide and 2 1/2 in; 6 cm deepest. It is not very noticeable. The sleeves have been taken in at some stage, probably when worn by a woman with slimmer arms.
