Girl's Spitalfields Dress
c 1845/18th century silk

Such a sweet dress, clearly cut down from her grandmother's 18th century Spitalfields silk dress. Beautiful fabric. Probably for a 10 year old girl. 

Description

The bodice with scoop neck, pointed and front applied with three rouleau edged decorative panels, full puff sleeves with tight pleating to the shoulder, wide pleated skirt, back opening with two sets of eyelet holes, ready for lacing. 

The off ivory silk woven with large sprays of flowers and leafy tendrils in shades of green, yellow, pink, soft orange and brown,  the background woven with self coloured pattern of small leaf meander and short dashes. 

Condition

One sleeve has a few very slight marks on the top of the sleeve.
