





This bonnet is from a collection of traditional Folk costume bonnets from Marken, the Netherlands.
Made from an early 18th century hand painted and resist dyed Indian chintz and lined in a hand woven linen, with a traditional embroidered red and white trim all around the edge. You can still see the glaze.
These bonnets were traditionally worn on the back of the head over a fine linen or lace cap.
A huge indigo leaf to the back of the bonnet flanked by red flowers and leaves in a variety of sizes, on a cream ground, edged with typical tranditonal red and white braid, lined with coarse woven cotton, the bonnet in three sections.
