The wide border embroidered with floss silks in terracotta, soft orange, apricot and cream flowers outlined in cream with leaves in bronze and sage green, outlined in dark brown, between narrow borders with a meandering bud and stem design, all on terracotta tussur silk.

Great colours. The tussur silk would have been imported from India and dyed by Thomas Wardle with natural dyes. This would look good mounted and framed.
Probably a border for a tablecloth. Very similar to Tanjore Lotus. Using Tasar or tussur silk threads and ground silk from Indian, dyed by Thomas Wardle in Art shades.
Elizabeth Wardle who formed The Leek Embroidery Society also produced a replica of the Bayeux Tapestry (actually an embroidery) in 1885, now in Reading Museum. The original can of course be seen in the British Museum for the next few months.
